Driver's side window switch fix and plans was created by mm928
Hi everyone, I have not been posting much during the winter months,,,, lots to do at home and at work.
I took my car to get inspected and lo and behold, if your power window does not work it will fail! Never thought of that. I replaced both window switches last fall, no problem then, but shortly after the drivers side motor went out, so I had to replace it.
Unfortunately, after I buttoned it up, the driver side would then only roll up. I knew everything in the door was ok as I had just replaced and tested it. But once buttoned up,,,,! ugggh
So I left it for a few months waiting for warmer garage temps. When it failed inspection I was forced to dive in,,, but that was a good thing and it was a nice weekend (finally).
Long story short.....the new switch I bought was now bad! Luckily I had the old passenger side switch (which of course is normally much less used than the drivers side) and tried it voila! Worked like a champ. Lesson is probably that the 36 dollar after market switches may not be worth it and you might consider the 75 dollar real ones.....or something closer. Also, the finish and window Icons on the cheaper ones were not that good.
After i enjoy my electrical fixing prowess...lol....I will probably go for Paul's solid state switch pad replacement solution.
Next is to replace the fan motor with Roger's solution,,, I am losing a bearing,,, it is squeaking, but only when I turn right... HA Then maybe braided brake lines.
Then back to the switch replacement. I really only have paint (long term) left do as a "big" thing. For my purposes, I am about 95% done with the car. After those things,,, anything else is gravy.
Pics finally later this spring or summer..... summer? YEAH please@@@@@! I am tired of weekly snowstorms in VA......

You might want to check the blower and make sure that there isn't a leaf or something hitting the fan. You might also see if you can get some oil into the bearings...

Good work...I like the solid state window switches too, but low on the budget line right now.
My blower was the 2nd thing I took out of my car when I got her, the first being the CE panel. I drilled a hole in the top housing and sprayed oil in it...did not help, BUT...it was rusted stuck, and had gotten a lot of water in it the 19 years it was dormant. I was able to free it up, and now it is a spare (found a newer model one cheap, which was in excellent condition).... Point being , lube it up...can't hurt...

This sounds like the window switch is bad. Tony over at the other website might have some ideas for you...
I don't talk about that rWebsite any more, since it continues to employ an ANUS from San Diego.

You might try putting the faulty switch inside a clear plastic bag and carefully taking it apart in there. They can sometimes be refurbished.

Thanks guys - got it fixed!
It was....... a BAD NEW SWITCH....that's what I get for getting the aftermarket ones. I luckily had the passenger side switch from when I replaced both and I put that one in,,, works like a champ. Next time it will be the Champagne solid state switch plate. After doing this that should be a relative easy upgrade
