looking to purchase 928-S4 was created by Johnnyts
Hi, nice to have found this forum, want to learn and share my liking for a 928.
Been looking at a few 928's available, found an 1988 S4 Automatic, very good overall, little thin crack on the dash and a cracked driver seat (cream leather ) which I want to fix if I pull the trigger.
Car starts easy and feels awesome on the road, what else can I look out for ?
Car looks like Indie Red, body work immaculate, had a pro-spray job and decent service history with 100k miles now.
cheers
Johnny

Best recommendation is to get a pre-purchase inspection (PPI) by a knowledgeable 928 mechanic. Not just any mechanic will do.
928 OC member David Chamberland has an excellent PPI guide and checklist here: members.rennlist.org/worf928/928%20Periodic%20Inspection.pdf
Biggest things to look out for: Recent timing belt and waterpump (every 4-5yrs/50-60K miles) and drive shaft migration on the automatics (a cause of thrust bearing failure)

Thank you Jarred, I learned that the timing belt was not done in 7 years, only maintenance on a few things and minor services, I've found another to go look at but an '85 S2, looks neat inside especially !
cheers
