Although living in Germany, I'll be home in TX (Pflugerville) on the late evening of 17 Nov and will be stateside, mostly in TX for around 10 days. I've already spoken with James and we'll get together. I hate that I won't make it for Marble Falls but that's the way of things, I guess.
I have been a member of the Porsche Club 928 in Germany and met Anatole Lapine a few years back (what a true gentleman he is). He signed the gas flap of my '84. Through the wonders of the internet I put him in touch with a long-lost love (they had both since married, so no hanky-panky!). He wrote me a nice letter back which I guess is OK to show here. I'll dig around for more pics, including of my former mistresses (aren't all 928's?)
So if those of you in the Austin area want to get together, I'd love to meet y'all over a cool one and some BBQ (really miss Texas BBQ). I've been in touch with a seller so hopefully I'll buy my 4th 928 while I'm there!
Best,
Mark

Thanks for the welcome.
I've been soaking up a lot of the posts the past week. I really like the online owner manuals. Up to now, I've mainly been reading them in German...
Just need to get another 928... I hope the one I told James about will still be there when I arrive... Much better it goes to a genuine enthusiast than someone to whom it's just ' a cheap Porsch' (sic)

yes, i did join. but i have a question. my car was running fine, except for a coolant leak in the overflow container. I replaced it, and now my car will fire and not run. were there any wires behind the tank or fuses or anything that i could have disrupted.
thank you james
James can you take a picture of the passenger fender that shows from the coolent bottol to the rad.
It is possible that one of the wires in the harness from the electrical block further up that runs back under the coolent bottle have correded inside the harness.
Take a couple of pictures so that I can see what it looks like with some close ups by the bottle.

pulled the coolant tank back out, the only thing underneath is windshield wiper pump. kept looking found a ground wire on the rear of the head that i must have loosened. cleaned the connection, tightened it up. she fired right up, shark on the prowl.James can you take a picture of the passenger fender that shows from the coolent bottol to the rad.

Perhaps I should figure out how to clone my restoration threads on here to try to pump a little blood through the OC veins?!

Hey Hugo - welcome to the pool. Lets see some pics and descriptions. Is your 84 the 84 1/2?
Thanks for the welcome.
It's an Indischrot/black 84 with 5-speed, mileage is about 74,500. The VIN is WP0JB0924ES862829. I didn't know there's a difference between 84 and 84 1/2. Does the VIN help figure that part out?
I bought it in January 2012 from a guy whose handle is "Kiesan" on the Pelican Parts and Rennlist forums. Before the car made it's way east from Seattle, I had the motor mounts, oil pan gasket, and a few other items taken care of by a mechanic named Leif Johnson. The car is stock except for a few items that I've installed: a "Lizard" short shifter, a Delco alternator, and a set of Coco mats.
Here are a couple of pics I took soon after I got the car.

The only "half-year" model that I am aware of is the '86, where they went to the new suspension during the model run.

But also lately I have seen references to 83.5 and 83 as well when looking at parts on some of the well known sites. There must be some minor difference, but this is the first time I had heard about an 83 1/2 year as well. They even had VIN numbers showing the demarcation point. If I see it again I will let you know. I don't remember specifically where it was although I had been looking at brake lines and the big brake kit from Carl and maybe 928 Intl.

The '86.5 reference is very unofficial, and originated on Rennlist, primarily because of the interest in the big brakes. There are quite a few differences between the early and late '86 models - the big brakes also cause the '86.5 cars to have different front suspension, and the cars also have a different exhaust and a slight change in the chassis sheet metal as a result.
