New to 928 Club - The 1978 Survivor

Good morning, KJ here and I am new to the 928 Family and this Club. My history has been in the Toyota Land Cruiser world but in general have always enjoyed cars. I have recently taken ownership of this 1978 928 with 5,400 miles on it. I am looking for some suggestion on getting it started. My plans are to pull the plug as and drop some oil down the cylinders and let it soak, then hand turn the engine over. Next, install new battery (what do you recommend). Last put in fresh gas and then attempted to fire it up.
Much appreciate any suggestions, I do know a major server error was done about 8-9 years ago and that included a new timing chain. the car is due to arrive in San Antonio by Wednesday

I have a question. How long has this car been parked and not used.

I believe the car has been parked and not started or driven for about 5-6 years.

If that is the case then you have a lot to do before you make any attempt to start the engine. After such a long time you need to drain all fluids, change all hoses, filters and belts, fuel tank must be cleaned and most importantly make sure the water pump is not seized up. After you do all that then you can put in a battery and try to start.

I had not thought of the water pump - THANKS MUCH - can do all that!

After much deliberation I have decided to let the folks at Jones Autowerks in San Antonio get the beast started. They cant see it till the second week in November - stand by for updates and more pics

Wow amazing find! Looking forward to updates. I just got a 78 that is a driver but needs much basic maintenance. Is that a 78 in Hellblau? Do you have pic of the paint code sticker on the door jam? Mine is also originally hellblau 78 which isn't supposed to be, based on the sales literature.

Yes to answer your question, Jones Autowerks is an excellent shop, car in running and I will take it for a road test to see what else is needed - Stand- By

I’m afraid I’m not very good with much of these sites, I have the same issue on my Toyota Land Cruisers sites. - I’ll get better. More pics to come when car is home
