Several 928 aficionados have advised me to remove the radiator shutter system on my 89 (it presently has several broken slats).. They mentioned that it was not on earlier models and left off some later production. The reasoning was that it was designed to accelerate warm up in cold climates and unless you live in that environment, it was just typical German over engineering, In fact, it could get you in stranded on a hot day with the shutters malfunctioning in the blocking position. So, I am subscribing to that advice and removing the system. My question in the process is, will disconnecting the attached electrical motor and relays affect other computer sourced functions that may be electrically sensitive? Anyone else made this alteration and have any tips?

The advice I got was to just remove the actuating rod between the motor and shutters and fasten/zip-tie the shutters open. Less labor involved in doing that, which also applies if someone wants to make the system operational again.

The fuse can be pulled when shutters are open, no need to do more.

With the shutters open, I removed one of the 7.5 amp fuses from XVIII #23 position. Now when I turn the key on, instead of closing to assist warm up, the shutters remain open. My only question is, will this fuse removal affect the operation of the electric fans? My owners manual indicates the fan operation can be triggered by the position of the shutters.

I've had the shutters open since I acquired my 1987 928 S4 in 2004. We have some of the warmest weather in Arizona and I've never had a heat issue. So I wouldn't worry about it.
